Princeton!

April 1, 2010

Hello! Well after neglecting my blog for a few weeks, I think it is time I got back to it. I’ve been in Princeton for over a week now, and am having a terrific time. It’s pretty cold over here (tops of 12 degrees-celsius), even though it is (allegedly) Spring. I’m living in a house about 3km from Princeton campus, and so start each day with a very chilly bike ride. This actually works pretty well, achieving about the same effect as my usual morning coffee!

I’ve been attending some Princeton philosophy classes, which are really of such an exceptional standard. To my surprise, most of the classes are catered! So before the class begins, you can help yourself to a sandwich or bagel or salad or cookie or hot drink or can of soft drink. These Ivy League universities sure know how to spend their endowments!

Anway, here are some piccies -

About the short-term future of this blog.

Beginning late next week, I will be traveling to the USA for 7 weeks! I’ll be visiting Princeton University to present (and defend!) a paper of mine at a conference, and then will have the amazing pleasure of staying on as a visiting student for the remainder of the time. You can check me out on the conference website here.

Hopefully, this will involve taking part in lots of philosophy seminars, conferences and events, talking to an academic or two about my thesis, and maybe even visiting a few other philosophy departments in the area.  I am uncontrollably excited about the trip!!

Anyway, I could see this going three ways for you, dear reader.

  1. This blog may degenerate into a travel diary
  2. I may put the blog on hiatus while I’m overseas
  3. I may be so stimulated by all I’m learning that I churn out many interesting and illuminating posts

I guess we’ll see…

On a related note, suggestions about fun things to do/ places to visit in the North-East-ish corridor of the States are very welcome!

Princeton, Here I Come!

February 3, 2010

A paper of mine has been selected for presentation at a conference at Princeton University! So in early April I will be heading off to the USA to take part in the 2010 Princeton Graduate Conference in Political Theory. I will have the opportunity to present my paper, ‘John Rawls and Onora O’Neill on Kantian Constructivism’, to hear feedback and field questions from Princeton graduate students and faculty, as well as hang out at one of the world’s most famous universities for a couple of days. I can’t wait!
